Hymnals or Prayer Books
Tidily placed in the sedilia – by the priest or an acolyte perhaps. In my local churches, the sedilia is often one of the older parts of the church architecture, perhaps reused from earlier building phases. Few people have access to the sedilia as they usually lie alter side of the alter rail (communion rail). The cushion suggests the sedilia are still used today, presumably for short periods.
